Cement resurfacing is extremely important and might be tricky sometimes, especially if you live in a hot, dry area like Los Angeles. Resurfacing cement wrong could lead to a variety of problems with your floor. These problems include deterioration, peeling or chipping away, and fading of the colors. Therefore, in this blog post, we’ll tell you our tips and tricks on how we resurface your cement perfectly.
1) Surface Preparation
Surface preparation is the first, and most important, phase in the process of resurfacing concrete. When preparing your surface, your concrete needs to be properly cleaned. We always make sure to strip off any type of coating that is covering your floor (paint, tiles, old stamps or overlays). We then ensure there is no dirt, dust, oil, or any other type of contaminating particles before resurfacing your floor. If this step is skipped then any decorative coatings you add to your floors in the future won’t bond to the concrete to their fullest potential.
2) Sealing Process
Sealing is the surface-to-surface joining technique of materials using a substance known as sealant. Epoxy concrete sealers are one of the most durable sealers perfect for garages, high traffic retail environments, and lofts. The substance transfers the forces from one adherent to the other. The substance used for sealing is known as a sealant or sealer.
Sealing is the last phase of the concrete resurfacing process. The sealer is in charge of doing two things. It makes your new floor shine, and serves as a shield to your concrete. Sealing is extremely important when resurfacing cement floors. It is important because it protects from UV rays, foot and vehicle traffic, and from day to day dirt and grime. Solvent-based sealers usually provide greater protection; when we are resurfacing a cement floor that is exposed to tons of sunlight we use at least two coats of sealer. This way your cement floor is better protected from the dry, hot Los Angeles climate.
How We Apply The Sealer
Another important tip we use when sealing and resurfacing cement is to spray the sealer instead of rolling it. Many people prefer rolling the sealer with a foam roller when applying the final protective coating. However, when it’s too hot out, rolling may lift the sealer only after the second or third time it goes over a certain area causing imperfections. This can ruin all of the hard work we’ve put prior to sealing by leaving ugly spots throughout the surface. A better method of applying the sealer if you live in a hot, dry area like Los Angeles is with a pump sprayer, instead. Applying it with a pump sprayer will unfortunately increase your cost (since you can only spray sealer once with every pump sprayer because it gets clogged up), but it will definitely save you a ton of stress and frustration. An evenly sprayed coat of sealer is normally heavier than a rolled one too, which gives better protection and fewer future problems. Depending on the amount of traffic and sunlight exposure your cement floor receives, it may need to be re-sealed every 5-8 years.
3)Applying The Overlay
Since we live in a hot, dry area we apply the overlay during the coolest times of a day. When it comes to decorative concrete, we never start working right after sunrise. We wait until the morning dew has dried up, which normally happens between 8AM and 9AM. Unless there’s a heatwave, which means we are going to get a milder temperature until about 11AM. Still, starting work at 11AM gives us enough working time to coat most projects less than 2,000 sq. ft. After this window, the second best bet is to start a little before the sun sets. If by any chance you want to work on resurfacing your cement alone and want to apply the overlay at night make sure you have bright lights where you are working. Another important tip we follow is mixing the overlay with cool water. When we mix our bucket of overlay, we never leave it exposed to direct sunlight. It’s better to carry it every time you need to pour some down than to rush while applying it.

Flooring trends change throughout the years as homeowners acquire new tastes and technology allows a larger variety of flooring designs for their remodeling projects. This year homeowners are looking for more of a twist on flooring with a unique aesthetic that catches the eye and gives their home a more exotic and luxurious look. Some of the 2019 trends you might find familiar, others you might be surprised by. Check out this list of popular flooring trends for the new year and consider how you may be able to utilize them in your home!
Trend #1: Fumed Wood Flooring – Stronger Color & Grain
Almost all types of wood flooring undergo some kind of staining to give them the desired final finish. Fumed wood flooring gets its rich color and grain without having to get any sort of staining. Instead, the wood is put through a process called fuming. This involves placing the wood in a chamber where airborne ammonia is then released. The wood reacts with the ammonia and undergoes a color change. The reaction does not always result in the exact same changes. The final patina achieved depends on a number of factors including the type of wood, the outside environment and the atmosphere in the chamber itself. Generally, however, fuming gives the wood rich dark tones and enhances the natural grain of the wood. Get a Quote
Trend #2: Bleached & Blanched Woods
This involves applying a chemical solution onto surface of the wood to get rid of the “color”. Blanching gives the wood an ashy white-washed look with the natural wood grain still being clearly visible from underneath. This allows the charm and beauty of natural wood to come through in more subtle tone. Get a Quote
Trend #3: Distressed Wood & Concrete Tiles
The distressed floor style has been around for quite a while but has seen a resurgence in 2019. Next year, expect to see more homeowners opt for that luxury aged look in their flooring. Distressed flooringundergoes artificial aging and styling processes that give it a slightly worn finish. It works best for spaces where a beautiful rustic look is desired. In preparing distressed wood flooring, various actions are taken depending on the degree and style of “distress” desired. The edges of each wood plank are hand scraped, swirl and kerf markings are added to imitate historic wood and the planks are brushed to remove glossing and give them a soft worn texture. Get a Quote
Trend #4: Vintage Black & White
Vintage has always been about nostalgia, bringing back the warmth and memories of decades past. In 2019, one of the trends is the classic black and white tiles that are making a strong comeback. It’s not the same old black and white tiles that adorn historic homes. Instead, it’s bold, graphic, and more luxurious. More and more homeowners want a unique twist to the vintage flooring style. This includes smaller tiles with bolder graphic patterns. This perfectly blends vintage with contemporary for the perfect look and feel. Get a Quote
Trend #5: Large Porcelain Tiles: Hexagon & Trickling Floor Patterns
Hexagon tiles have been in the spotlight for awhile, specifically when used for back splashes in the kitchen, or accent pieces in the bathroom. Now, expect to see hexagon shaped tiles as well as other various shapes, specifically in large sizes, taking over the living room, dining hall, and kitchen area. These patterns create beautiful effects in any room! Trickling patterns are also becoming more and more common and will continue to increase in popularity throughout 2019. These can display a variety ofdifferent textures, sizes, and colors of flooring that eventually blends together. Get a Quote
The Benefits Of Hardwood Floor Remodeling For Your Home
Hardwood flooring has become a very popular choice for many homeowners and for good reason. There’s a wide variety of benefits that make the investment in hardwood floors incredibly worthwhile. If you’re choosing between hardwood flooring opposed to the many other flooring options out there, consider these excellent advantages to hardwood for your floor remodeling.
Easy to Clean
While the high-quality, elegant look may seem high maintenance, hardwood floors are actually very easy to clean and maintain. They do not naturally accumulate much dust or debris. A simple vacuum or dry-mop will keep your home dust-free. It’s important to remember these tips when cleaning your hardwood floors:
- Promptly wipe up all spills to protect your floor from water damage.
- Do not pour cleaners or any liquid directly onto the flooring.
- Never use a steam cleaner or steam mop on your hardwood flooring. Water soaking into wood can create permanent damage to your new hardwood floor remodel.
With proper care, quality hardwood flooring can easily last 100 years or more, depending on the wood type, humidity of your home and upkeep. While maintenance is important, regular cleaning and caring for your floors will allow you to enjoy your investment for years to come. Some wood species are more susceptible to color variations over the years and should be appreciated for their natural beauty and not mistaken as a defect or problem. Using mats or rugs is an easy way to protect your hardwood in high traffic areas. With hardwood flooring, refinishing is always a great option without having to completely redo your hardwood flooring. Refinishing hardwood floors only needs to be done once every 8-10 years, keeping your hardwood floors looking new.
Hardwood Floor Remodeling is Durable
Choosing the right wood species is important when durability is a focus. Soft woods like pine and fir can dent or scratch easily and shouldn’t be selected for high traffic areas. A hardwood like Brazilian cherry is a much more durable option. The finish you choose for your wood floor is another way to ensure resilience through the years. Depending on your hardwood wear-layer the option to re-sand and refinish your floors allows you to keep your wood floor looking like new for years to come.
Diverse Aesthetic Options
Hardwood floor options are nearly endless, with thousands of different colors, finishes, styles and species available. From parquet flooring to floor medallions and borders, the options for customizing your wood floor are boundless. Wood flooring offers unparalleled aesthetic selections for homes and businesses alike.
Solid wood flooring can offer either a rich echo, or the ability to absorb sound. While it’s easy to overlook wood floors for carpeting when noise is a concern, modern installation techniques allow hardwood flooring to be as effective in sound absorption as other flooring options. Depending on the installation method, homeowners can control the level of walking noise or echoing to meet each room’s needs.
Compared to other flooring options like carpeting, hardwood floor repairs can be less expensive. There are a number of products available on the market to help with smaller scratches. Loose boards or gaps can also be addressed without replacing the entire room’s floor. Scratches or general wear and tear are easily remedied by re-sanding and sealing, instead of a full replacement.
According to the National Wood Flooring Association, sustainable forest management makes wood flooring a renewable material that provides lasting benefits to homeowners long after installation. Some interesting environmental facts on wood floors include:
- Better indoor air quality
- Carbon neutral product
- Production uses less water and energy to produce

Waterproof Vinyl Plank Flooring
Vinyl Plank Flooring is one of the newest, cost efficient, and convenient ways to install floors throughout your entire home. Now we know when it comes to redoing your flooring, there are certainly a wide range of options from hardwood, tile, carpet, and of course, vinyl plank. Of these options, Vinyl plank flooring has increased in popularity over the years. The many technological advancements have enabled Vinyl Plank Flooring to be offered in numerous, stylish colors and patterns.
At DA Flooring Solutions, located in Los Angeles, our Vinyl Plank Flooring is not only new, cost efficient, and easy to maintain but on top of that, Vinyl Plank Flooring is also 100% waterproof and looks just like real hardwood.
Why Use Waterproof Vinyl Plank Flooring?
More and more people are now considering and installing Vinyl Plank Flooring because of its durability, low price points, and easy maintenance. Our Waterproof Vinyl Plank Flooring comes in easy-to-install strips rather than the traditional square floor shapes. Because there are less planks to lay, the installation is much easier and less time-consuming than the traditional flooring process. The design of the Waterproof Vinyl Plank Flooring also gives the home a certain, distinctive wood plank floor appearance.
The features of Waterproof Vinyl Plank Flooring seek to replicate real and natural plank wood, but at far lower prices. The texture and surface embossing gives the appearance of a wood plank. These features allow vinyl plank to fit and never seem out of place in any home.
Another great advantage is the waterproof features that will help protect against spills and water damage that ruin traditional hardwood floors and cost thousands to replace. With Waterproof Vinyl Plank Flooring, you’ll never have to worry about the risks of water damage. This makes Waterproof Vinyl Plank Flooring perfect for busy households. With the summer on the horizon, Los Angeles households are about to have a lot more activity. Especially in the rooms where we spend the most time in – our kitchens and living rooms. This is the time of year that our children will be running through the backdoor into kitchen with wet and muddy feet, trekking in water from the pool and the slip ‘n’ slide. This type of wear and tear can greatly damage traditional hardwood floors over time, but with Waterproof Vinyl Plank Flooring your home can withstand various activities indoor and out.
What is Waterproof Vinyl Plank Flooring Made of?
Waterproof Vinyl Plank Flooring consists of multiple layers of material to withstand damage and up its durability. Specifically, at its base there are layers of PVC and fiberglass which is the key to its 100% waterproof feature. From the PVC base to the top surface, there is a decorative printed film, a wear layer (to prevent damage), and then topped with a UV coating.
Furthermore, the durability and scuff-resistant material makes Waterproof Vinyl Plank Flooring perfect for high-traffic, hard-wearing areas such as family rooms, entryways, and children’s bedrooms.

June is just kicking off and you know what that means, it’s time to kick off that summer remodel you’ve been considering! You most likely haven’t been considering a remodel of the entire home; however, maybe you’ve been thinking about remodeling your kitchen, or bathroom. One of the best ways to completely renovate the feel of a room, is through the installation of tile.
What you’ll find in this blog:
- Why you should consider installing tile in your kitchens and bathrooms
- Tile installation options
- Why you should look to DA Flooring Solutions for your tile installation
Why you should consider installing tile in your kitchens and bathrooms
First and foremost, renovating your kitchen adds value to your home. Other than appliances and cabinets, flooring is one of the biggest factors when it comes to determining the value of your kitchen. Beyond adding value to your home, there is a variety of other benefits that come with the decision to go with tile over alternate flooring options.
The modern family spends a significant amount of time in their kitchen. Meaning the kitchen floor will be subject to all kinds of wear and tear. Therefore, you should be looking to get the best performance out of your kitchen flooring material. Performance, longevity, return on investment and ease of maintenance are all important factors to consider when remodeling your kitchen or bathroom. Tile installation is by far one of the best ways to incorporate all of these qualities into a kitchen floor. Choosing tile flooring is cost effective and provides a wide variety of style options to choose from. Tile and stone have the ability to add that “wow” factor that you could be looking to incorporate in your next remodel.
When remodeling a bathroom, one of your major focuses will be on water-resistibility. Tile offers the densest of flooring options and will therefore be the most resistant to water. Moreover, like the kitchen, you want your flooring to be easy to maintain. Because of its water-resistibility, tile is a surface that does not require a lot of maintenance and can be wiped cleaned with common household cleaners. Therefore, tile is one of the most popular options for bathroom remodeling.
Tile installation options
You have a plethora of options when it comes to options for tile installation. Below we highlight the most in-demand options when it comes to remodeling kitchens and bathrooms.
1. Ceramic tile
Ceramic is a very popular choice for walls, but it is also a great option for floors. A specific glaze can be applied to ceramic tile which makes it impervious to water and staining. This glaze makes ceramic perfect for use on bathroom floors and walls.
2. Porcelain tile
Many people choose porcelain tile because of its aesthetics. The good news is, it still possesses the same level of durability and can be easily maintained like other tile flooring. Porcelain tile comes at a higher price point than other tile flooring options, providing a customized look to your home.
3. Glass tile
More commonly, you can find glass tiles in showers and bathrooms, but it is also a great choice for flooring in general. One of the best things about glass tile is the fact that you can incorporate a wide variety of radiant colors, turning your bathroom floor into a work of art. Furthermore, glass tile will never stain. It is, however, a higher priced tile than the previously mentioned ones.
4. Natural stone tile
Natural stone tile is an umbrella term covering a few different types of tile including: limestone, marble, granite and quartzite. While the initial price of any natural stone flooring is going to appear steep, it’s ultimately an investment. An investment that will outlast the majority of flooring options out there.
Limestone tile is the softest of the natural stones. This flooring option comes at a lower price point than granite and marble while still providing a natural and rustic appearance that is desired by many. The easy maintenance of Limestone tile is especially great for remodeled bathrooms.
Marble tile, unlike limestone tile, can be polished to a very high shine. The molecular composition of marble allows for light to slightly penetrate the surface of the stone – permitting light to bring out colors in the stone, giving off a beautiful glow. While marble tile can be visually stunning, it can also stain and scratch, which is something to keep in mind when considering marble floors in your kitchen.
Alternatively, granite tile is very dense, and much more resistant to scratches and stains. It is also a very durable flooring material; however, it requires a rather time-consuming maintenance regiment. Daily care is suggested in order to avoid stains and dullness.
While quartzite flooring is often considered beautiful, it can also be one of the pricier tiles to install. A major benefit of quartzite is the fact that it’s relatively low maintenance and will not be as time consuming as maintaining granite flooring.

Hardwood flooring that is properly manufactured and finished can last decades. It is best for areas of the home subject to large amount of foot traffic. Both its timelessness and its durability make hardwood flooring a great long-term investment that boosts the value of any home.
Types of Finishes For Hardwood Flooring
Water-based polyurethane is arguably the most chosen finish for hardwood flooring Los Angeles. It provides a smooth, shining finish that gives the traditional hardwood floor look. Most polyurethane finishes are glossy, though they can also be semigloss and satin in finish. Most flooring of this type is factory-finished, making installation a breeze. In addition, the high-sheen finish is easy to clean, but can make scratches stand out.
Aluminum Oxide is the most durable of finishes, and can last over 20 years. It is mostly used on pre-finished hardwood flooring that has thinner than usual planks. This means that while the finish lasts a long time, it shouldn’t be sanded and refinished. The upside to aluminum oxide flooring is that it is easy and quick to install.
Oil sealer finish enhances the grain of the wood and bring out its natural color. It is best for a low-gloss finish, and is ideal for antique homes. However, this finish is not as durable as polyurethane, and usually needs to be reapplied every few years.
Hardwood Flooring & Resale
Though there is no hard data to support the idea that hardwood flooring provides greater resale value, The National Wood Flooring Association says that 99% of surveyed real estate agents believe a home with hardwood flooring is easier to sell. Additionally, a USA Today study found that more than half of home-buyers said that they would be willing to pay more for a home with hardwood flooring.
DA Flooring Solutions offers the best in hardwood flooring Los Angeles. Hardwood is not only one of the most durable materials for your home, but also one of the most in demand.
